Home Sweet Home

The phrase “home is where the heart is” has never been more appropriate than it was the past few weeks, especially upon my return to Perth and Barr last night. I have been a lackluster blogger over the last 3 and a half weeks, but hopefully now that I am no longer on the road (or in the air) I can get back on a regular [blogging] schedule! Thank you to all of my family and friends who made this such a fun few weeks πŸ™‚ And congratulations to the Haverlands and Radants!

So after hopping on the red eye from Perth to Melbourne, I flew back to the states to LAX. Quick Los Angeles visit (most of which was a jet lagged blur, I am sad to report), and then off to Charlotte to catch up with friends and do some last minute wedding prep.

Onward (via car this time) to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina for Bill and Sarah Craig’s wedding:

I stuck around in Hilton Head for a few days with my parents and some of their friends, who came in for a couples golf week – a great time to unwind and see/meet some of my parent’s friends:

From Hilton Head, the golf crew (all 8 of them) plus me headed just an hour south to Savannah, Georgia for some more golf (them) and relaxation (me):

For Memorial Day weekend, the Simpson/Blantons part of the group flew onward to Houston, Texas. My grandparents and sister also came in town for the long weekend πŸ™‚ We caught up with some great friends (old and new) for a Memorial Day BBQ and of course, played with the pups!

After Houston, I flew to Santa Rosa Beach, Florida for the last leg of my trip: Barr’s cousin’s wedding! Kim and Matt’s nuptials were so lovely and their wedding day was such an embodiment of the two of them. And as always, it was great to see my in-laws (this is not a sarcastic comment – I love being with the Blantons! Though Barr was missed by all.) While there was a lot of rain in Santa Rosa Beach that weekend, we managed to have fab weather for the wedding day, and the weekend was a perfect way to cap off the trip to the states:

Thank you for putting up with all these photos (and some of them pretty poor quality at that! The big girl camera did not made it in my luggage this time around) – figured I’d jam everything into one post this time around! Until next time…

A Nice Day for a Texas Wedding

Yall – it really was! And the word (yes it’s a word) “yall” couldnt be more appropriate for this Texas fueled wedding. Houston, Texas was my first stop in my trip to the states.

The bride and groom were high school sweethearts in Houston, so to listen to their long time friends, as well as family, talk about their relationship over the years was very special.

Gorgeous day, gorgeous couple!

Gorgeous day, gorgeous couple!

It is just a happy coincidence that the bride, a friend of mine from Wake Forest, was also from Houston (where I grew up during elementary and middle school), so seeing my parents during the wedding week was a great perk (not to mention they also attended the nuptials πŸ™‚ ).

After a balmy (okay – it was downright FREEZING in my mind, but I’m also the girl that came to the states during winter without boots or a coat) week leading up to the big day, the weekend began to warm up and the clouds broke – a good omen! The wedding weekend kicked off with the bridesmaid’s luncheon at Ouisie’s TableΒ – this day also happened to be the infamous “Go Texan Day” (the official kick off of the world famous Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo! I advise you to check out Longhorns and Camels’ excellent post to learn more about rodeo-ingΒ here). Given the overlap of celebrations, Elise opted for a fun Texas charged lunch. Each of the tables had local blooms, and the bridesmaid’s were asked to don their cowboy boots:

That evening, everyone gathered for the rehearsal followed by a lovely rehearsal dinner. In another wholly Texas/rodeo event, our bus to the rehearsal was delayed due to chuck wagon parade along the highway – I can’t make this stuff up! πŸ™‚

Fast forward to the big day! Every beautiful detail was planned out for the morning (beauty prep), afternoon (picture time), and evening (the ceremony and reception). Elise was so calm and collected all day, and of course, looked absolutely beautiful (she is gorg inside too!) A great day to say the least.

Around the World in 17 Days

Well not quite the whole way around the world, but close! It has been a long 17 days, but I had an amazing time during my stint in the states (with the only bummer having been that Barr couldnt make it too!) If you follow me on Instagram, you have been privy to some of the travels and subsequent celebrations, but I’ll do a bit of a recap over the next few days (in between last minute…okay second training for the Abu Dhabi triathlon – why did I decide to that again?? Super screwed on that front – and recovering from jet lag).

The journeys began in Houston, where I was in a good friend from college’s wedding. Thankfully, my parents live in Houston as well…and my grandmother (Mema!) came to town…and my dog (Dash!) is currently being lovingly taken care of by my parents as well. A recipe for a great week.

Following Elise and Evans’ spectacular wedding (more details to come…), I headed to the west coast to visit two of my favorite people in the world – they graciously welcomed me into their fabulous new home…and on the week of their anniversary no less! I love seeing Allison and Mike – you know those friends that just make you smile just thinking of them? That’s these two πŸ™‚

From Los Angeles, I hopped on the red eye to Nashville to celebrate a bachelorette party! I am my dear, lovely, amazing friend Sarah Craig’s (double name, yall!) matron (ugh, can’t I stay a maid? Matron sounds old) of honor in her wedding this May. Seven of her friends met up in the Music City for a weekend of loving on the bride to be – it was an amazing way to end my trip to the states πŸ™‚
